Dr. Garcia will help guide the future of St. Francis
Gainesville, FL, June 26, 2023 – Saint Francis Pet Care, an affordable veterinary clinic in Gainesville, is proud to have Dr. Larry Garcia, former Clinical Assistant Professor of Shelter Medicine and Surgery at the University of Florida College of Veterinary Medicine, join their team. Dr. Garcia brings years of veterinary experience to the practice and will help shape what the future of affordable veterinary care looks like in the Southeast.
Dr. Garcia is a general practitioner who transitioned to Shelter Medicine and was recruited to the University of Florida’s Shelter Medicine Program, where he developed and launched two clinical clerkships in which clinical veterinary students are embedded in municipal animal shelters. Once the clerkships were established, he transitioned to the Veterinary Community Outreach Program where he focused on shelter medicine and spay/neuter surgery training. While at the University of Florida, Dr. Garcia also took on the role of Medical Director for the Veterinary School’s disaster response team and has led multiple disaster exercises and deployments. Dr. Garcia is actively on the Executive Board for the National Alliance of Animal and Agricultural Emergency Programs and the Executive Board for the Humane Society of North Central Florida.
With Dr. Garcia’s help, St. Francis will grow its impact in the community through its partnership with Remedy: Your Community Vet. Saint Francis Pet Care recently joined forces with Remedy, Atlanta Humane Society’s affordable veterinary clinic. This partnership has enabled St. Francis to leverage resources and begin to create more a sustainable business model to support more pets and people in the community.
“Ensuring our community’s pets have the veterinary care they need to stay with the families who love them has always been a passion of mine “, said Dr. Garcia. “I am honored to be joining St. Francis Pet Care, and I’m excited about the vision they have alongside Remedy to increase the accessibility of veterinary care throughout the Southeast.”
St. Francis Pet Care, founded in 2007, delivers free or low-cost veterinary services to the pets of underserved members of Alachua County.
